The Auto-Refractor is the first step to an eye exam.

 

This is called our pretest. This machine works by measuring how light is affected as it enters a person’s eye. With this technology, we are able to get an estimate of a patient’s prescription.

 

Followed By The Exam

 

Once the pretest with the Auto-Refractor is complete, the patient will join Dr Prewett in the examination room. The Doctor will fine tune the prescription given by the Auto-Refractor. This is also where he will determine if there are complications or procedures that need to be done such as retinal photos or dry eye treatments.

After the exam, our patient may be referred to any of the following stations:

WHAT THE BRAIN SEES

The DIOPSYS

  

The Diopsys helps us read brain waves that allow early detection of optic nerve disorders including Glaucoma, hypertension, diabetes, and visual loss. The Vision Center of Santa Maria is the only optometrist office on the Central Coast that has this technology available!

The OCT

 

The OCT, together with the Diopsys, is the most current addition to our exam process. This device takes pictures of the back of the eye to help us find inflammation and/or bleeding caused by diabetes, hypertension, or macular degeneration.

 

 

 

 

DRY EYE TREATMENT

The MIBOFLO

 
The tip of this hand held device warms to about 108 degrees. We then apply a small amount of ultrasound gel to the tip for comfort. We have the patient close their eyes and massage their eyelid in circular or back and forth motion with the warm tip.
 
The combination of the warmth and the massage get the glands working again as they are supposed to. Again, the Vision Center of Santa Maria is the only place on the Central Coast that has this technology available for their patients.

iProfiler and iTerminal 2

 
The iProfiler and the iTerminal 2 work together to give you the most precise refraction that can be given. 
 
 
The i.Profiler measures how light rays travel through the optical system and its accuracy is 1/100 of a diopter (10 times more accurate!). This allows your prescription lenses to help you not only in the day when there is a lot of light but also in the night when there is none. 

 

With the iTerminal 2, measurements are taken to make your lenses as personalized as possible by taking 5 different measurements (instead of just the PD). This enables us to produce a prescription that is 25 times more accurate!
